Lost Bags...

For those who have been losing sleep over our missing bags, they are missing no longer. They arrived late last night, and we got them this morning.

Laurie was, of course, pleased to see them, but less-than-pleased to see their conditon. Seems that they were inspected in San Francisco by TSA, immediately after arrival in SFO (each bag contained paperwork of who inspected and when, and the when was about 15 minutes after we arrived). Laurie spent hours ironing the clothes and packing them carefully. The inspectors undid that: the bags looked as if they rummaged through the clothes and then just stuffed everything back in any old way. Kind of like I would have packed.

But, we're back to functional again, which is definitely a good thing.

  1. I'm glad you got them back, even if they are crumpled. Has this ever happened to you before? Were they inspecting them and then lost them, or their inspection delayed them?

  2. A couple trips ago we came over here three weeks after fluids were banned from carry-ons. That caused people to check far more bags than they did before, and the airlines were overwhelmed: British Airways alone had 10,000 delayed bags at London Heathrow. Two of our three bags arrived a day after us; the third appeared in Seattle three weeks later.

Air France was great about helping us is trip; when BA lost our bags that last time, they told me I had to come to the airport each day to see if they turned up. I went the next day and found two bags, then returned three days later (each trip requiring a full morning, so you can imagine how happy I was to spend my Paris days doing that). But the third bag was still not there and when I asked the BA staff about it, the woman's response was, literally, "We have people whose bags have been lost for three weeks, so you shouldn't complain that yours have only been lost three days."

We don't know whether the inspection cased the disconnect, but it cannot have helped.
